A Voice for all of Us
When you elected me as your Jackson County Supervisor in 2012, I had two main motivations, Sophie and Joseph, for wanting to serve our community. Now, my wife, Lauren, and I have added Michael and Luke and I am once again asking for your vote. As a lifelong resident of Jackson County, I understand why people love this community and are committed to maintaining its charm. I believe it is critical for us to create a business-friendly environment that will generate more jobs in our county. I understand the importance of good roads and infrastructure; however, we must not lose sight of the important role our future generation plays in economic development. I believe supporting a solid recreation department where the families of our communities can mesh, grow, and develop is just as important to our future. Simply put, the driving goal is to continue our successful work moving Jackson County forward. The Jackson County “Economic Express” is rolling toward the future. We must continue this momentum so our children will be proud to have business opportunities and rewarding careers in which to raise their families in Jackson County. I would appreciate your vote in the Republican primary on August 6, 2019.

Fire Rating: A message from Carl R.
Hi all. Once again our County Supervisor Troy Ross came through! I now have a copy of the letter from the Mississippi State Rating Bureau, dated August 20, 2015. It announced that effective 19 Aug 2015, the St. Martin Fire Grading District was changed from Seventh Class to SIXTH Class. It further states "Any insurance contracts covering dwellings located in this District may be endorsed from August 19, 2015, on a pro rata basis to take advantage of the current fire premiums indicated in our Mississippi Dwelling Manual." And "Comprehensive Dwelling Policies and Homeowners policies also may be endorsed on a pro rata basis to take advantage of applicable rates or premiums."
You should be proud of your fire fighters and county officials to achieve this rating. The best in the entire state, for our type district.

Sun Herald: Ross defeats longtime supervisor Brodnax
In Jackson County, Ocean Springs Alderman Troy Ross, a newcomer to county politics, defeated incumbent Republican Supervisor Tommy Brodnax, who’s served as supervisor for 18 years during multiple stints. Ross won 59 percent to 41 percent in unofficial results. Ross faces Democrat Bo Alawine in the Nov. 8 general election.
“I think a lot of people wanted a change, wanted someone who will return their calls and remember that they work for the taxpayers, not the other way around,” Ross said.

Mississippi Press: Troy Ross pushes incumbent Tommy Brodnax out of running for District 4 supervisor seat
PASCAGOULA, Mississippi -- Republican Troy Ross ousted incumbent Jackson County Supervisor from his District 4 seat in Tuesday's runoff election and will go on to face Democrat Bo Alawine in the Nov. 8 general election.
"I want to thank Mr. Brodnax for his service to the county, and I hope to be half the supervisor he's been in the past," Ross said. "I think moving forward that we can do a lot of good things for the county."
Going into the supervisor post, Ross said Fort Bayou Road would be among his top priorities.
"It should have been a priority before, but now with the schools there it is a safety issue for the kids and parents dropping their children off," he said. "We need to work with other supervisors to make sure we have funding to complete that project."
The Cedar Grove and Windsor Park areas also need some attention, he said.
"They has some major drainage issues that we need to prioritize and start working on," he said.
Ross and Brodnax defeated candidate James "Ralph" Cruthirds in the Aug. 2 Republican primary.
If Ross, 32, succeeds in November, he will vacate his Ocean Springs alderman seat, and a special city election would be held for his replacement. Ross was elected to his first term on the Ocean Springs board in 2009.
County supervisors serve four-year terms and are paid $45,000 annually.
"I am disappointed that I didn't win, but I've been defeated before," Brodnax said.
Brodnax garnered the most votes during the primary, but he couldn't maintain his momentum during the runoff.
"I know that whenever you get defeated, you just pack up and go to the house when your term ends," he said. "But I will do my job until the end of my term, and I will give my successor my full support."
Brodnax first became supervisor in 1982 and has served one half term and four full terms as supervisor. Before that, he was on the Jackson County Board of Education for four years.
"I've been defeated twice before and was out of office for 12 years," he said. "But I've been the comeback kid."

Mississippi Press: Tommy Brodnax and Troy Ross spar over annexation issue
OCEAN SPRINGS, Mississippi -- Annexation has become a testy issue in the battle between incumbent Tommy Brodnax and challenger Troy Ross in Tuesday's Republican runoff for Jackson County District 4 Supervisor.The winner will face Democrat Bo Alawine in the Nov. 8 general election.
Brodnax and Ross are both running advertising in local publications that they oppose the annexation of St. Martin and Latimer.
However, Brodnax's latest ad indicates Ross, Ocean Springs Alderman at large, voted for annexation of "a large area of Jackson County."
Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran issued a press release Friday that Brodnax's ad apparently triggered calls to City Hall about the city's annexation plans, which she said are on hold.
"The city of Ocean Springs has no intention to annex the Latimer area, counter to the current political advertisements placed by Supervisor Tommy Brodnax," Moran said in her released statement.
"Those misleading assertions have no base in fact, and the current city administration has not discussed this area. The city has postponed annexation plans regarding the Miss. 57 area, just north of I-10, but is not considering any land area in Supervisor District 4."
Brodnax said that a couple of years ago, Moran told Supervisors that she wanted to annex a portion of Interstate 10 in Latimer and St. Martin, so the city could garner federal grants.
"I'll fight Ocean Springs, Pascagoula, whoever wants to take in more of our community," Brodnax said. "We need to keep our community the way it is."
Brodnax said he told Moran in that meeting that they, "would duke it out in court if she ever tried annexation."
"That whole bunch on the Board of Aldermen want me out of the way," Brodnax said.
Ross also said Brodnax's statements were untrue regarding annexation.
"There has never been discussion by our board about any annexation north of Fort Bayou," Ross said. "He appears to be making this up to help him win this election."
Ross said he's never badmouthed Brodnax and will not in the future.
"Throughout my whole campaign, I've only said why you should vote for me and never why you shouldn't vote for him," Ross said. "We're going to keep doing just that."

Ralph Cruthirds, who lost his bid in last week's Republican primary for the District 4 Supervisor seat, pledged Friday to support Troy Ross.
Ross, a Republican in his second term as Ocean Springs Aldermen at large, faces Incumbent Supervisor Tommy Brodnax in the Aug. 23 primary runoff.
"I just think Troy's concerns are more in line with the citizens' concerns," Cruthirds said. "He's a fine young man who will make a fine supervisor."
The winner of the runoff will face Democrat Bo Alawine in the Nov. 8 general election.

Why I'm Running
As a life long resident of Jackson County, I understand why people love this community. It is critical for us to create a business friendly environment that will generate more jobs in our community, while working to maintain our charm.
Ask yourself what you really want from a supervisor. I am committed to being the person in Jackson County you can call and expect a call in return.
At the polls the choice is as simple as remembering that we all WIN in Jackson County when we all have a voice.
